Q: Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day?
A: I always loved very simple white and green flowers. I started looking at color palettes and I knew right away that I wanted blush pink for the girls and blue for the guys. I thought it was very fitting for a spring wedding in Rhode Island. My husband and I are from two different religions/cultures. I had a catholic reading during the ceremony and we did a traditional Afghan /Muslim mirror ceremony to incorporate his side.
Q: Let's talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?
A: I just wanted all white and green flowers everywhere with lots of candles! We also had half our tables with gold lanterns surrounded by flowers and the other half had gorgeous low floral arrangements. The venue really speaks for itself so we didn’t need to bring much besides flowers!
Q: Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?
A: My MOH speech was unforgettable and probably one of my favorite moments of the day. She did her own version of Alanis moresettes Ironic. Her lyrics were spot on and very thoughtful - she got a full standing ovation from all the wedding guests! They loved it as much as we did!
Q: Let's talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.
A: I really had no idea what style dress I wanted to I tried on many different styles and designs and fell in love with a gorgeous Martina Liana gown from wedding atelier in New York ny. The strapless fit and flare design was very detailed with beautiful lace throughout all way down to the train. My husband had a custom suit designed from mysuit. We went with a brighter blue than the groomsmen. It fit him perfectly!
Q: How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.
A: We met at work. We live in New York and he proposed on our way up to Rhode Island (where I’m from) for mother’s day weekend. He had just brought a drone for his bday and wanted to test it out. There was a lot of traffic so we pulled over and when to this beach to play with the drone. Long story short he got the entire proposal on video. I was totally shocked! We got to R.I. and got to celebrate with my family all weekend. It was awesome!
Q: What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
A: Our ceremony was perfect. We wrote our own vows that our officiant read to us and my husband got really emotional when he heard mine. He’s not one to ever show emotion so I was extremely touched. Again, my MOH speech was another great moment for us.
Q: Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you'd like to share with other couples planning their day?
A: Try to remember what the day is truly about. We can easily get caught up in all of the details but don’t let them stress you out. I promise that all of the hard work that goes into the planing is well worth it. It was the best day of our lives!!!
