Questions to ask your wedding photographer

After working with clients and talking details with them, we thought it would be helpful to put together a question reference for soon to be brides. These questions will help navigate your way to finding a wedding photographer that works best for you.

Since you will most likely be contacting a local photographer whose work you really enjoy, it is so crucial to make sure you guys connect and have a similar personality! You are going to be spending pretty much the entire day together so we would highly recommend choosing someone that is friendly, nice and just an overall good person. Like us :) So without further ado (que drumroll) here are a few questions to consider.

How far in advance do I need to book my photographer?

You typically want to be searching for your wedding photographer at least a year out. Top San Diego photographers and destination wedding photographers fill up their schedules extremely quick and to make sure that they are available for your wedding day, you want to make sure you secure that date. It also is important to note that some photographers do have a team. During busy season we do tend to double book which is why we have grown a team of talented photographers to make sure we are available for you.

How long have you been in business & How many weddings have you shot?

This is another very important question, you may see someone’s work and it blows you away! However if they have only shot 2-3 weddings and don’t have the experience working with other wedding vendors it can become extremely unorganized. A wedding photographer with experience will be able to handle gathering family after the ceremony and making sure the day runs smoothly, coordinating with the wedding coordinator and dj.

Have you done many weddings that were similar to mine in size and style?

Chances are if you are reaching out to the photographer of your choice, they have the style and perspective you are a fan of. Us personally, we have photographed weddings with as few as two people (the bride & the groom) and as large as 750 people. Our style reflects more of a illustrative style photography which tells a story of your day, while also positioning you in the best light and placing you to make sure we create the best pictures of your day. Each wedding is unique and it is amazing being able to work with so many different people and meet new families and friends.

Do you offer prints or albums?

So important! Albums are amazing to have after your wedding day to look through and show guests who come over. There is something about having the hard copies as oppose to having your photos sit on the computer. Many of our packages include a wedding album in the packages.

What information do you need from me before the wedding day?

About two weeks before your wedding day we jump on a call to go over a detailed timeline. This includes family names (parents, siblings, grandparents etc.) a schedule of when we start with details of you getting ready with the girls as well as the guys, all the way to the very end. This helps make the day go incredibly smooth.

These are just a few of the questions to ask your wedding photographer about. If you have any further questions feel free to give us a call to talk!
